Unemployed single dad asks for Christmas help
MANCHESTER Molly expects that Santa Claus will bring her presents Christmas morning. Thanks to members of the community who contribute to the Union Leader Santa fund for the Salvation Army, there will be presents.
Her father, who has been out of work for four years, this year asked for assistance and will be able to select toys for Molly at the one day Toy Shop that is filled not only with toys purchased by the Santa Fund, but also with special toys donated by participants in the annual September Toy Run organized by the New Hampshire Motorcyclists Rights Organization.
He will also be getting stocking stuffers and a grocery store gift card, keyed to the size of the family, to make possible special holiday meals and also restock some basics.
Bruce and Molly mother aren together any more. Bruce has older children, from an earlier relationship, but Molly is his baby.
Bruce said he was laid off four years ago when the company he worked for downsized. was a tow truck driver, he said. He could do mechanic work, he said: my knees aren what they used to be. have her five days a week, he said, including the weekend.
But he would like to be able to find work, so that he could buy the Christmas presents for Molly next year and let the Santa Fund help someone else in need.

The Union Leader Santa Fund is a community tradition that has supported the Salvation Army for more than 50 years. The Santa Fund was first established at the Post Office Fruit in Manchester after a chance 1959 meeting between the Salvation Army major and the then editor of the Union Leader,

Since then, the Santa Fund has raised nearly $6.8 million, thanks to the generosity of the community and local businesses. Santa Fund dollars continue to provide warm clothing, meals and toys during the holidays, as well as support Kids Caf , summer camps and other critical programs throughout the year. Last year’s drive brought in over $240,000 thanks to the generosity of local businesses and residents, bringing the lifetime total to nearly $6.8 million.
