We stayed for 2 nights at Usha Ascot as a couple. Ours was an all meals package. We had stayed in the deluxe no view rooms.
The resort is a good 15-20 minutes walk from the market.
Please keep in mind that, any hotel in Matheran will be a notch below than any other place owing to the auto-mobile restriction.
Pros:
Good swimming pool. Overall, its a good resort. Rooms are clean and well-designed.
Cons:
Food was not at par. Menu was not at all good. Service was too slow, despite it being the off season. You will have to remind at least 3 times to get a simple request treated.
Some more about food:
We had asked for Jain food. Let me tell you, despite the resort being owned by Jains, the menu at lunch was a big put off. None of the vegetables were good. They don't serve Punjabi vegetables for Jain (in lunch).
Most important:
They had a window slit open in the bathroom. Ours being a ground floor room, it was scary. Even otherwise, it is disastrous as anyone can peep into your bathroom.
Note:
They did cooperate well in changing my dates although I had booked through Goibibo.
Overall, good for families but it is an expensive property in Matheran. You can go to any hotel (but from top 10 or so) that fits your budget and it will still be the same.
If you are looking for some experience, try Verandah in the forest.
