With a Pencil in My Pocket is a social artwork. 150 people are sharing six subscriptions to "500 Colored Pencils" - each receiving one pencil per month for 20 months. Every month each of us seeks out a manifestation of our pencil's color name – a place, person, thing, creature, activity – that somehow embodies the essence of the color. These experiences are documented by writing a short story or vignette with that month's pencil in our project journals.
