Six Summer Holiday Activities to Keep Your Kids Out of Trouble ...

For children, the summer holidays seem to stretch on forever and ever. They have endless days to themselves with nothing to worry about for what seems like an eternity.

For parents too, the summer vacations can seem like a long time too. But only because it's difficult to keep your youngsters amused for the whole summer break. Here are six activities to keep you kids out of trouble this summer:

Take up a Sport

Keeping your children healthy and active during the summer break is important. Encouraging them to get involved with sports is a great way to help them keep fit, and run off all that extra energy. They could join a club with friends or go it alone, but there are bound to be plenty of sports clubs in your neighbourhood to choose from.

Arts and Crafts

Getting involved in arts and crafts are great ways to keep children of all ages entertained over the summer break. Whether they get arty at home or at a class of some kind, it's a great way to help keep the creative juices flowing. Children can also make things for you or the home which is always a nice touch.

Learn an Instrument

With an endless summer in front of them, the mid-term break is a great opportunity for your child to learn to play an instrument. Whether they go for something traditional like a guitar, or more niche like a djembe drum, getting involved in music is great for children. They could form their own bands, take part in music groups, or just play alone.

Visit a Museum

To keep your child's mind active, it's a good idea to go on a trip to a museum or art gallery. Make these trips both fun and educational with treasure trails or pop quizzes. It's a great idea to encourage your kids to enjoy learning, and going on these trips with friends helps to make learning fun.

Make Your Own Cinema

There's nothing more fun than a trip to the cinema. But it can be even more fun to bring the cinema to your home. Draw the curtains, dim the lights and buy in some sweet treats. You can then put on your favourite movie, or buy in a new DVD. This is much cheaper than a family cinema ticket, and is a great way to spend some quality time together.

Help Around the House

While your children might not find it fun, giving them specific chores to do throughout the holidays is a good idea. Stick to a single task like washing the car or tidying their toys away, and make sure you reward them. You could give older children pocket money, or have treats on offer for a weeks' worth of jobs. This helps you out, and makes sure your children value money and their possessions.

By planning a few regular activities and spontaneous treats, your children will be able to make the most of their summer. Don't let them sit in front of a games console or television all vacation – keep them stimulated, active, and out of trouble.

If you're looking for the perfect instrument for your kids, why not try a djembe drum? Djembe Drum Shop stocks a comprehensive range of handheld djembes and percussion instruments.
