CALGARY â€" Since the day he was born, Max Schilman and his teddy, Berry, have been inseparable.
Together they have camped, participated in races and gone to the movies.
The Grade 3 student takes his fuzzy brown buddy to school, eats dinner by his side and the two of them sleep together each night.
When Max was gravely ill, Berry was there.
But the teddy bear went missing on a weekend trip to Calgary and now Max is desperate to find him.
“He is probably crying like I am, said Max, of his lost stuffed toy. “I’ve had him ever since I was born and he is from my grandpa that died.
Berry’s family, who live in Fort Saskatchewan in northern Alberta, have launched a search to locate him, including posting a reward.
The Schilmans spent the past weekend in Calgary and Berry, as usual, was along for the journey.
But somewhere between CrossFit Ramsay, a Walmart near Southland Drive, Chinook Mall, a southeast Holiday Inn and the highway toward home, Berry disappeared.
The loss brings tears to Carrie Schilman’s eyes.
“Max just misses him so much, the mother said. “I have looked everywhere and called everywhere we were. No one has seen him.
For the Schilmans, the toy is more than a teddy bear, “he is part of the family.
The mother, who has posted an online advertisement and offered a reward for Berry’s safe return, lists a litany of reasons Max needs the “well-loved stuffy to come home.
The furry toy has a rich history with the family.
Berry was a gift
